It's Feasting Season! So, More About Food!

Food!

My favorite topic... or one of them at least.

And modern studies now know the truth which the ancients have been teaching: that "mucus" (the modern term) does come from certain foods, as well as pollution and other sources, and is the cause of dis-ease.

"Doshas are Vata, Pitta, Kapha and Agni is our digestive fire."

(Doshas is the counterpart of the elements, which is called something else depending on which culture or scripture you are referring to.)

"Many factors, such as detrimental lifestyle, diet, bad food combining and repressed emotions, can cause the bodily doshas to become aggravated. This soon disturbs agni, with the result that food cannot be properly digested. The undigested food turns into a morbid, toxic sticky substance, called ama. Ama is the root cause of many diseases. The presence of ama in the system leads to fatigue, and a feeling of heaviness. It may induce constipation, indigestion, gases, bad breath, perverted taste, and mental confusion. The tongue gets a thick coating and there may be generalized body ache and stiffness. Because of the critical importance of agni in maintaining health, it is important to have balanced agni, called sama agni."

When doing a cleanse, detox, fast... it is not just "plain fat" you are trying to clear out.  One of the ideal results is that mucus (not merely fat) is cleansed out of the body.

Mucus is the ama, described in the above quoted text.

*these keywords mostly turn in "modern studies".

If you are more curious about the "ancient holistic stuff", it is best to choose a specific culture/belief and read about their beliefs on food and the body.  Whether you read Chinese or Hindu sources... terms and details might differ, but there are many similarities.
