The words “clean” and “sober” are expressions that mean to say that you are not “intoxicated in any manner or form” and/or you are not “a user or dependent of intoxicating substances”.
Saying “I’m clean” is a statement said that means:
1. If the cops searched you and your belongings… they would not find anything because you are “free and clean of intoxicating substance”.
2. If you undergo a drug/intoxication test… they would not find anything because you are “free and clean of intoxicating substance”.
Though saying “I’m clean” doesn’t always involve liquor per se.
Saying “I’m sober” is a bit more casual. And is usually more about liquor. Though it can also involve any kind of intoxicating substances, including drugs.
WHY am I being out and loud and public about it.
Does it have anything to do with people I know whom I care about.
Well…
To be honest…
I recognize people’s life choices. I see from the perspective that "we are all having a journey". So I have learned to respect people’s choices, whether or not I personally know them. Recognizing people's individual journeys and choices is not the same as agreeing or tolerating. THOUGH I will always tell them I will always caution against it… even if I will leave you to your choice.
And even if we are close... but you are already in your 30's or 40's or more...
I'll probably never say a word... though if you are someone truly close to me I'd personally tell you frankly: You already know what drugs are, and you already know you are making a choice and that it is your life. I trust that you know exactly what you are doing. Period.
If you're not my child... if I'm not married to you... if I don't live with you for that matter... your life and choices are yours.
Instead...
Truth be told…
At the top of my reasons for being out and loud and public about "Being Clean And Sober" would be something I saw on TV, back in 2008. I was staying with my aunt in the US, and I sometimes watch the news with her to keep her company. I didn’t want to offend her by saying I don’t actually watch a lot of news or TV… especially that it was quite obvious she might not understand why.
One day…
What I saw on the news was…
A full recording of two young parents who were very very very very high. They were so high that they were recording on video how they were smoking pot/weed AND made their INFANT CHILD smoke it, too. And they were literally laughing in a happy way… not in a “laughing joking about it way”. They were actually happy about the whole thing.
And the INFANT CHILD was obviously just a months old… not even talking or walking. It couldn't even sit itself up straight on the sofa yet. It didn’t have a choice at all, because it can’t even move itself in such a way as to be able to shove “the thing away”.
The INFANT CHILD had no choice but to smoke whatever they were making it smoke… the same way it would have drank milk if they placed a bottle to its mouth.
The video recording made it to the news, because the parents were so high that the video made its way around.
Would you shove weed to your own infant child or newborn.
Would you stuff your own infant child with drugs and liquor, before it can even talk or crawl or walk.
What is wrong with drugs anyway.
Regardless of the effects to one’s health, to me… it’s the “substance dependence” that matters.
To me… it’s just like being dependent/addicted to liquor or smoking.
The choice to be dependent is yours.
The same way that the choice to “not be dependent” is a choice.
The same way that the choice to empower yourself is a choice.
The temptation and weakness you overcome are power and strength and freedom and sovereignty you gain. #awareness #consumerawareness
These days...
It should be quite apparent...
And something we should all know by now...
That #SelfEmpowerment is not something handed down to you like a shirt you simply wear.
Self-empowerment is something you do for yourself. And people merely support you in the process of making that choice for yourself.
At a personal level…
Quitting liquor gives me that “power of choice” to do something else with my time, my health, my body, my life…….. instead of drinking.
Truth be told...
Even if it was a personal choice to quit liquor...
It was a great motivation when I later discovered that many successful business owners are actually very clean&sober AND even advocate and ecourage people to be the same. They have been public about how they actually value their health... and live lifestyles very different from what is usually portrayed in TV and movies.
Knowing that so many successful people are actually #CLEANandSOBER served as an affirmation and verification that I am on the right track.
When children (and teenagers and adults) are not dependent on drugs and other intoxicating substances for that matter…
1. They can live healthier lives.
2. They can live more empowering lives.
3. They can do much more better things with their time, health, body, lives.
4. They can have healthier more empowering aspirations in life for themselves and for others.
If you did the math...
Money and time "spent" on drugs and other intoxicating substances can be money and time "invested" on:
1. Your grandest dream vacation
2. Your grandest dream house
3. Your grandest dream car
4. Your grandest dream life for yourself and family/love ones
And even if you don't care much about any of the above...
The money and time "spent" on drugs and other intoxicating substances can be money and time "invested" on WHATEVER it is you desire and aspire for the most.
